Soulful Notes: JULEZ’S on “Rise Above It” and Inspiration

Unveiling the world of her music with powerful vocals and mesmerizing melodies, JULEZ’S becomes an inspiration for many. Her latest single “Rise Above It” sounds enchanting and carries the strength of overcoming challenges and optimism within it.

Today, we’ll be talking to JULEZ’S about her single “Rise Above It”, the inspiration behind her artistry, and how music aids her and her audience in navigating life’s difficult moments. Are you ready to delve deeper into this exceptional creative world? Let’s begin.

V: Hello JULEZ! You recently released a new single, “Rise Above It”. Can you tell us what inspired you to create this song?

JULEZ: I wrote “Rise Above It” on a day that I was stuck in my head. My mind was racing with negative thoughts about myself, but I got through it by reminding myself that I won’t always feel that way, and that each day is a new day to create, feel, and move differently

V: Your song “Rise Above It” has catchy melodies. How to create musical hooks that remain in the memory of listeners?

JULEZ: Whenever I write my music, I don’t sit down and say “I’m going to write a song right now about this topic.” So to answer that question on how I do it, Im not fully sure, it just happens. God blessed me with this gift and I am forever grateful. I can be doing anything, and I’ll get this urge to write, so I just write down whatever comes to me in that moment. I do go back later on and tweak it and obviously how it starts out is never what it sounds like in the end, but it’s typically not a forced experience. It’s a feeling.

V: “Rise Above It” is a song about overcoming difficult moments. How does music help you personally cope with such moments?

JULEZ: Music has always been something that moves me, so when I am feeling off, I turn the music on to feel, release, experience, relax, reset

V: In your opinion, what is the main message you wanted to convey with this song?

JULEZ: Life has its moments, but in those moments, remember that it’s a feeling and a small pocket of time, not your entire life will feel or be like that. It’s what you make it! Everyday is a new day to change something, to become better, to try harder, to do more, to feel differently.

V: Your voice can evoke emotion and attract attention. How do you manage to convey certain emotions through vocals?

JULEZ: I do this by creating what I feel. I believe by truly feeling it out is why my listeners genuinely feel and experience something when they are tuned in to my sound and what I have created with my engineer and producer.

V: Across various media outlets, including here at Voxwave Magazine, you’ve received excellent reviews for your music. How does it feel to receive such recognition for your creativity?

JULEZ: I am very grateful for all of the love and support I have been given and for what I will continue to receive. I wouldn’t be here without God and my community of supporters so thank you all!!

V: What aspects of the creative process do you enjoy most when working on new music?

JULEZ: One of my favorite things about the creative process is how what I start out with is completely different than the final piece. The in between, the journey- I am learning and evolving through each part of the way.

V: What emotion or reaction do you hope to evoke in your audience with your music?

JULEZ: I want to encourage each being that hears my music. I want them to feel better than they did before they heard my song. I want to inspire, motivate, and uplift each supporter.

V: Do you have a favorite moment on stage or in the studio that you especially treasure or remember?

JULEZ: Some of my favorite moments haven’t been on stage or in the studio, but rather when I receive a message or a comment under a post, a call from someone or when I am approached by people out in public, that expressed how my music has moved them, helped them, and encouraged them. Through my music, I want to bring more love, light, healing, positivity, and goodness into this chaotic world, so hearing others stories drives me even more.

V: Funny or quirky moments often happen during studio recordings or concerts. Do you have any funny stories to share with us?

JULEZ: One time when I was performing, there was this song on my setlist: when I had recorded the song in the studio, I had asked the engineer, if I was close enough to the mic. It was decided to keep that phrase I had said in the song when it was released. So when I performed this song, I remember a guy in the audience who genuinely thought I didn’t know how close to hold the mic to my mouth while performing, so he started explaining to me how to hold a mic. At this point, I had been performing for 12 years so it was just hysterical to me, but I was appreciative of him trying to help me out and for truly listening in during my set.
