V. Your new single ‘Issues’ has a sexy, evocative sound that’s quite captivating. How do you approach creating such an intimate atmosphere in your music?

I’d like to think that atmosphere and my music is an extension of my own atmosphere as a person. meaning, that’s how I feel… it’s what I live by The whole concept of it. “ we’ve got some issues, but we can work it out.” That’s what it’s about for me, solving problems and making it work, no matter how damaged or grey it can get.

V. How do you think ‘Issues’ represents your evolution as an artist since your debut?

It represents a phase of my evolution, yes, absolutely. It’s really gratifying to actually be able to drop something where I’m 100% in it. I am that, I’m happy about it, I get excited to perform it, and I don’t get tired of listening to it. I’m a fan of my music before anything. If it doesn’t touch me like that, it doesn’t see the light of day. And listening back to that in the studio with Soundskillz, and getting back home and showing it to people that are important to me like Prod. By Win, my pops, and seeing their face up when they listen to it, I know it was a new phase and now here we are. One million views later.

V. ‘Issues” brings a sultry  vibe to your discography. What personal experiences or stories shaped the narrative of this single?

What mainly molded this track was the first relationship I had in Europe prior to moving out there. She was great, and she was an amazing woman to me… but being that we came from very different backgrounds and we had different ideals, we have a lot of “issues”. But I feel like as we grow older. The approach becomes less like “ oh, it’s not working out let me just skip to the next person”. it becomes more about “ yes, we have issues, have problems, we have misunderstand, but we can work it out.” Which was the approach I took due to it being the first relationship i had in my young adult life. We’re not kids anymore, we gotta figure it out and we can work it out together. Fortunately, it didn’t work out. But not because we didn’t work it out…life happens.

V. Fashion often intersects with music in the most dynamic ways. How does your fashion sense enhance the themes you explore in your music, especially with “Issues”?

I’ve never said this, but all of the clothes that I wore on the video for “Issues” were mine. At that time, I was very scared to be a little more experimental in my clothing so I would go with what was more comfortable for me. And I feel like we did a great job honestly, i mean i look good. But looking back now today, I think I would’ve taken more risks. clothes wise. I’m definitely more experimental with my clothing today.

V. São Paulo is known for its vibrant cultural scene. How do you draw inspiration from your city, not just in music but in overall artistic expression?

I think what inspires me about the city the most is our drive. Our willpower to just turn the whole world upside down in our favor. That’s what we live by. Our condict and our word of honor everything we have. And there’s so many artists from that city that molded me into not only a great artist, but a solid individual like Racionais MC’s, Dexter, Rappin’Hood, Emicida. So knowing that I’m cut from the same cloth as these people, that did so much not only for the culture, but for music in general and made history for and in the city. It gets me high, just to think that I am the next generation of that city, so yeah. Heavy is the head.

V. Every artist has a signature style. What are the key pieces in your wardrobe that define the ‘Child of SP’ look?

I wear a lot of rings… a lot of rings. I don’t know, it’s just my type of energy. I would say rings and jeans. You’ll find a lot of that in my wardrobe. And shades… I’m getting into that a lot now.

V. In terms of fashion, do you prefer to take the lead on your styling, or do you collaborate with stylists?

I used to be very conservative with my clothing. But now that I know people in the fashion industry I think it’s awesome and very fun to collaborate with stylist.

V. What can your fans expect from you in the coming months? Are there any hints or teasers you can give about new music or collaborations?

We’re getting ready to drop again in the coming month and I’m extremely happy with the next track, been wanting to give the people this. I’m not done, and they’re gonna be seeing a lot of me. Date announcement coming soon on my instagram @childofsp. This is a special year. It’s been an amazing comeback, I feel blessed to have the support that I have in the places in the world that I have.

V. We’ve talked about your music and your style, but let’s get a bit more personal. What’s the most unusual or surprising item you always carry with you?

I Wouldn’t say this is unusual, but due to the fact that the collection has grown significantly I just feel like it’s a cool little world in my wardrobe. I have a lot of football jerseys, from everywhere. And I’m really proud about my new purchase, which is the Scottish national team jersey of 1998 if I’m not mistaken. So yeah, I love retro, modern jerseys.

V. Looking beyond the music and the fame, what are the values or beliefs that you hold most dear and try to live by every day?

I think the biggest value for me that’s most important is to make it count. I mean, look at the stage of the world we’re in today. Look at all the technology that we have all of the inventions that were made, and all of the paths that were paved by the ones that came before us. And take that very seriously and personally. Specially, when it comes to the city that we’re from . This is the first time São Paulo has been thrown on the international stage. Through me, and I’m honored. I feel privileged to be representing my cities flag in the world so big with so many other artists that honestly have way more resources then us. So this is for our city, this is for our families, this is for our artists, for all the times that we’ve been counted out, maybe even taken from by foreigners and not credited like we should’ve been. This is a new era for the flag. I’m extremely proud to say “nah, this ain’t Toronto, this ain’t LA. This…this is SP”. And the music speaks for itself. I don’t play around with my execution and I know I I got a long path to follow. Ambition is priceless, but now I’m just enjoying the ride.
