Music, Myth, and Modernity: The World of Tsar B in “Amor”

Belgian artist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Tsar B (Justine Bourge) blends the DNA of pop, baroque, and club rhythms, creating a turbulent stream of life filled with wonder, devotion, and curiosity. In her new single Amor”, she draws on the breathtaking soprano solo Lamento della Ninfa by Claudio Monteverdi – a song about a broken heart, not for a person, but for a world that inflicts pain and suffering. It is a cry of love for life amidst chaos.

In Lennert Madou’s video, Tsar B soars atop a giant animatronic bird, observing the chaos from a safe distance. According to Bourge, her character is paralyzed by suffering: she flies but cannot land. The image evokes mythological heroic figures, yet transforms into an antihero. In recent years, Bourge has gained recognition as a film composer and producer, while continuing to impress with her solo work.
