“Over You”: The Melancholic Lightness of Jane’s Party

Four friends from Toronto, then still university students, gathered some instruments, microphones, and makeshift studio gear just to experiment – and that’s how Jane’s Party was born. Their light, catchy pop melodies quickly made them sought-after for features, soundtracks, and all kinds of creative projects. Now, the band returns with a new song.

“Over You” was written in October 2018, a few months after one member’s mother passed away. The verses reflect his personal grief, while the choruses feel like words from his mother from above – a friend he can turn to in moments of sadness. The music captures the melancholy of the lyrics: airy guitar lines, a beachy rhythm, and an epic solo create a blend of sorrow and lightness, inviting both reflection and movement.
