Devon Church and his New Single “Fall Like Lightning” for the Internet-Weary

Devon Church (formerly of Exitmusic) has dropped his new single “Fall Like Lightning” with an eye-catching music video. This is a song for anyone tired of the internet, endless news feeds, and likes. A sharp yet heartfelt critique of social media and surveillance capitalism, it blends irony with vulnerability and tragedy with absurdity over a tense, ’90s-tinged breakbeat.

The track sounds like a lost cassette from northern England in 1997, yet its lyrics capture the anxieties of the 21st century. In the video, shot among the futuristic ruins of Antonioni and Vitti’s dome house, Church is a prisoner of his iPhone, wandering through the dreamlike landscapes of Sardinia and Rome.
