The Magic of Mystery: Anonymity Becomes Art – Bad Flamingo and their Track “Shame”

Bad Flamingo is an anonymous duo, they wear masks and deliberately hide their true identities. Anonymity creates an atmosphere of mystery – there is no “star personality”, all attention is on the music, on the mood. Their philosophy is in the quote by Oscar Wilde: “Give a man a mask, and he will tell you the truth” – the mask gives freedom to be honest, and the duo successfully implements this in their creativity.

Their style is hard to attribute to any one genre – it is a mixture of elements that makes the sound diverse and recognizable. The recently released track “Shame” may seem dark to some, and perhaps they are right. However, it seems to me, this moment in no way affected the rich texture and atmospheric mood. The emphasis is on emotionality, vocal harmonies, gentle acoustics – the sound is minimalist, but conveys the mood of the song well.
