In the 19th century there was no streaming, I suppose they didn’t even know such a word. However, the thoughts and quotes of the classics are relevant today as well. For example, Victor Hugo wrote the thought “Music gives a soul a universe” and it was exactly this that I recalled when pressing play on the new track “I Won’t Go Alone” by the Danish artist Echoes of MLO – and you understand: in three and a half minutes you have already been taken somewhere. Without asking permission.
Echoes Of MLO is the pseudonym of the Copenhagen artist Michael Leonardo Ostrowski, with a biography that could become a screenplay. Underground scenes, radio rotations, чужие melodies, rethought into his own voice. And now the new single “I Won’t Go Alone”, and here it is already about something fundamentally different. The song appeared during a period when the artist himself, according to his words, did not really understand where he was going. But life sometimes приподносит surprises and sometimes in such moments comes озаорение. Which, as a matter of fact, is what happened with Michael. One evening, with a guitar in his hands, looking at scattered lines he was confused in his thoughts. And then, click – everything fell into place. Such things are not built according to a plan – they either happen or they don’t. Michael found himself in the right place with the right instrument – and managed to catch it. “I Won’t Go Alone” sounds multi-layered: electronic pop that is not shy of its emotionality, atmospheric textures and sensual lyrics. Created in collaboration with Kristoffer Stjerne, it “juggles” mainstream accessibility and scope. Electronic textures spread out widely and cinematically. An upbeat rhythm runs through the musical concept of the track, it combines with bright and ringing drums that give the song forward movement. Angular guitars add tension and texture, maintaining interest and not drowning out the melody. Such a “sweet balance” adds universality to the song.
In the voice of Echoes Of MLO there is an undeniable presence: something warm and powerful, familiar and bold. Such an интиресная feature in the timbre adds a layer of authenticity and charm. Lyrically, “I Won’t Go Alone” is a story about trust without guarantees. “Not knowing where we are going, but I am not afraid” – this is its central nerve. No destination point, no map. Only forward movement and the feeling that you are not alone. The song deliberately does not explain who this “you” is. For some, probably, it will be read as love, for some as faith, and for someone – hope that the morning will still come. Each listener writes the ending themselves.
Echoes of MLO works at the intersection of pop accessibility and something bigger – not slipping into empty pomposity. “I Won’t Go Alone” sounds open. And honesty in pop music is something much rarer than is commonly thought.
