When two musical streams merge, like great rivers, their meeting creates a magic that is difficult to express in words. New Age music, like a gentle brook, flows through time, carrying peace and tranquility. And when this brook crosses paths with the mighty river of World music, its calm and fluidity gain a new breath. Musicians and composers mix sounds and rhythms, creating entire universes that can inspire and guide one into a state of enlightenment and inner peace.

In this continuous play , Marinho Nobre stands out as a true virtuoso. A composer, artist, and producer, he is unafraid to experiment with different genres electronic music, orchestral works, and, of course, World music and New Age. As a film composer, Marinho has scored several feature films, including Gnome Alone, a spooky comedy where his music adds just the right dose of quirky charm, and The Human Race, a wildly gripping sci-fi horror. And let’s not forget the supernatural drama “The Abode,” where his sound design perfectly aligns with the atmosphere and storyline of the film.
Marinho Nobre is a hybrid artist who effortlessly mixes emotions, energy, and diverse styles, painting music with a broad brush. As for his solo albums, Marinho draws inspiration from nature, myths, and his own spiritual experience. His debut album, “World Citizen,” became a kind of calling card where he blended all these elements with electronic and ethnic sounds. It received favorable reviews from critics, who noted the musician’s ability to seamlessly mix different genres. However, his second solo album, “The Tale of the Desert Mountain,” takes a more meditative and atmospheric direction, making it perfect for contemplative musical reflections.
The eight-track album begins with the track “Flying Through the Valley,” whose melodies painted in my imagination the image of a cave, not filled with gold coins but with musical treasures waiting to be discovered. The album features everything from exotic instruments to subtle, almost imperceptible sound effects, which together create unimaginable beauty.
Using traditional and ethnic instruments, Marinho creates music of infinity. Listening to the track “Misty Dawn,” my gaze was drawn to the boundless horizon, where silhouettes faded into misty dust. But in the following track, “Dust Devil Dance,” these vague images became increasingly clear, and I could distinctly see a middle eastern woman dancing at the foot of an ancient temple.
“The Tale of the Desert Mountain” is an unique album. In the first tracks, echoes of Mediterranean motifs are heard, which in their delicate sophistication gradually give way to Spanish rhythms in the track “For All the Animals.” In this track, Marinho masterfully weaves together the sound of the Tar – a middle eastern frame drum – and the Spanish guitar, spicing it all up with a pinch of savory synthesizers. This harmony adds a special zest, like an Eastern spice that unfolds in the subtle notes of an exotic aroma.
The sonic diversity of the album opens new horizons of emotions and moods, evoking an inner sense of awe. The shimmering “Wandering Souls” gleams like celestial bodies merging on a mysterious evening horizon. Meanwhile, “The Shrine,” weightless and refined, paints in the mind an image of a heavenly temple, where an invisible architect builds sacred vaults and columns.

Then, the slightly unsettling chords of “For All the Animals Pt. 2” ground the album’s atmosphere, smoothly leading into the final track, “To a New Beginning.” The music ranges from rhythmic melodies to soft, atmospheric sounds. He incorporates complex rhythmic and melodic structures characteristic of specific cultures and ties them together with synthesizers.
With his talent as a multi-instrumentalist and his rich background in classical music, rock, and even metal, I can confidently say that Marinho is a sound architect who pushes the boundaries of musical genres.
The album “The Tale of the Desert Mountain” is a meditation in motion. It relaxes, allowing the listener to reflect, feel, and perhaps even get a little lost in themselves. Don’t deny yourself the pleasure – listen to “The Tale of the Desert Mountain,” for true wealth is not only in material possessions but in the emotions that music gives us.
