The change of seasons always carries with it a special magic. Autumn with its warm colors departs, making way for winter, a time when nature plunges into silence and calm. Snow lies on the ground like a soft blanket, muffling sounds, and the air becomes transparent and fresh. It is precisely the spirit of winter, its contrasts and the silence filled with hidden energy, that comes to life in the music of Michael Evan Moore. After earning a bachelor’s degree in composition from CBU, Michael continued his education at UCLA, focusing on creating music for films, combining his passion for art and storytelling talent. His new EP “Winter Solstice” is a winter fairy tale told through exquisite piano compositions. The melodies transport one from a crystal-clear morning to the electric anticipation of an impending storm. The music brings to life images: swirling snow dancing under a gloomy sky, and moments of silence where the flickering candlelight seems capable of melting icy walls. In these melodies, winter reveals itself as the embodiment of eternal, mysterious beauty.
The EP “Winter Solstice” consists of six tracks, four of which are completely new releases. Each composition is a cinematic view of winter, revealing its dramatic scenes and mysteries. Listening to the record, you find yourself amidst snowy landscapes where deep shadows and muted light create an atmosphere of magical intrigue. The pieces reveal the subtle boundary of the winter season, intertwining shades of melancholy with glimpses of hope. One feels the urge to pause in contemplation and sense the harmony of winter’s contrasts.
The opening track “Solstice” begins the narrative in the shadow of the winter full moon, when nights grow longer, and days lose their brightness. The composition captures the essence of this moment, where slowing down and silence become the source of true awareness. “Solstice” starts with light, almost weightless chords, like mist enveloping the space at night. Smooth, yet distinctly ringing piano lines begin to unveil the depth of the piece. In the middle of the track, the harmonies become increasingly layered, but still maintain a sense of balance, reflecting the very equilibrium mentioned in the title – Solstice.
Each change in sound on the EP feels like a shift in the natural flow of time: from dark and gloomy mantras to bright, airy passages that nevertheless retain their mystery. In the track “Memories,” Michael adds the clarinet to the piano melodies. Written in memory of his late grandmother, it is filled with emotions connected to her image and memories of times when her presence was an integral part of the musician’s life. From the nostalgic “Memories,” we move to the composition “Starlight” its cosmic boundlessness opens up the expanse of the winter sky, dotted with stars. The sounds of the piano gently flow, and the atmosphere of exquisite silence, where the twinkling of the stars seems magical. The stars playing in the heavens fill the space with their light, and the notes, like tiny sparks, reflect their fragile beauty. “Winter Solstice” captures the tender silence and intense power of the longest night of the year, where moments slow down, and the darkness is filled with extraordinary energy.

The fourth track on the record, “Snowfall,” is a reminder that even in the darkest corners of the universe, there is light. In a world where snowstorms often hide everything that is loved, and when it seems like the blizzard will never end, it’s important to remember that light is always near. The melodies of the composition have no harsh sections, they are light and transparent. Like a gentle snowy breeze, we approach the track “Family” – a cozy and tender composition that embraces with its warmth, reminding of the closeness to those who are dear and the joy of simple moments. The quiet chords sway, and in them, one can find peace and confidence. The final composition, “Moonlight,” concludes the EP with cinematic grandeur. The orchestral melodies, unfolding smoothly, lead through snowy expanses illuminated by moonlight. This composition captures the grandeur and magic of winter, with its atmosphere of silence and enchantment.
The musical interpretation of winter, “Winter Solstice” by Michael Evan Moore, is filled with emotions, contrasts, and an atmosphere of mystery. Moore masterfully uses the piano, turning it into an instrument for creating visual images. A winter night, filled with stars, snow swirls, the coziness by the fireplace – all of this comes to life in his music. For those who find solace in the harsh and mesmerizing beauty of nature, “Winter Solstice” will become a sanctuary, where the soul of winter comes to life.
