“Storyline Mania”: The New Existential Indie Rock by Erik Flaa

Erik Flaa is a musician from Oslo, known for his distinctive voice and meaningful lyrics. His first album, “Still That Bird Is Singing“, was released in 2008 and immediately received excellent reviews. After that, Erik took a break from music to focus on his studies and other projects, but now he’s returning – with new strength and inspiration. He is currently preparing to release a new album, scheduled for fall 2025. The first singles have already drawn attention: GAFFA noted – “This guy might well become the Norwegian Nick Cave!”, and the track Fiesta for My Failure was recommended in Rolling Stone en Español.

And now, the third single from the upcoming album, “Storyline Mania”. It’s an upbeat indie rock track with powerful guitar riffs, a grooving rhythm, and light, soaring vocals. From the moment “Storyline Mania” begins, it feels weightless. The intro flows forward slowly: the guitar gently shimmers against a steady, unobtrusive beat, while the warm, resonant bass gradually comes to the forefront. At some point, it delicately gives way to a guitar solo that adds a special atmosphere to the track, blending hints of rock and a touch of glam. Bright, distinct drums set the pace and create a sense of motion, while angular guitars add tension and depth without overpowering the melody.

The result is a track that lands somewhere between indie and classic rock – it sounds organic, without trying to chase trends. Erik’s voice has an undeniable presence – something warm yet commanding. At its core, the track contemplates how time takes shape in stories – the ones we tell ourselves, and the ones by which others will remember us. The production is seamless, refined, and retains warmth, allowing each element to breathe. And that’s no surprise – the song was produced by Georg Buljo, a Spellemann Award-winning Norwegian producer, and recorded at the legendary Atlantis studio in Stockholm – a place where the magic is truly in the air. The single “Storyline Mania” is available on all streaming platforms. Highly recommend!
