In February of this year, we introduced you to the album” Bashfulness” by singer and songwriter Freidrich$. Even back then, he struck me as elusive, like a ghost conjured straight from the ether. Some claim that Freidrich$ emerged from absolute nothingness, already carrying with him a different kind of echo. Others swear they’ve seen him-a solitary figure in the half-light of studios, meticulously gathering sounds and turning silence into rhythm. The spark of truth slips away somewhere between these versions. Perhaps he is both: a worldly craftsman whose music unites two realms. It’s in this duality that the mysterious allure of his new album “Wish,” released this August, truly lies. The melodies of the release reveal a masterful fusion of infectious trap and atmospheric pop, creating a memorable sonic canvas. With” Wish”, Freidrich$ has delivered something romantic-an album about aftertaste, about the quiet, deep vibration that lingers after all wishes have already been made. And of course, it’s about love-described by the artist as a slow-moving comet, which is remarkably accurate. It doesn’t burn out in an instant but travels steadily, illuminating the path.

The first track, “The Moviegoer“, stuns with its rich atmosphere of longing and anticipation. Freely and confidently, Freidrich$ unleashes an emotionally captivating sound. His gentle vocals I’d compare to the flight of a butterfly: weightless, trembling wings that lightly brush the ear, leaving a trail of silken vibrations. It makes you want to close your eyes and drift with the music, dissolving in its gentle flow. The softness and airiness of the opener is carried forward by “Starz” – slow, hypnotic, a celestial current that exists by its own rules. Its sound doesn’t rush but unfolds like the night sky, where stars light up one by one. Percussion and keys are transparent, delicately interwoven with the vocals -melodic, slightly fragile, yet brimming with emotion. I think the essence of “Wish” lies in the way each track holds a spectrum of feelings, carefully packaged in rhythm and melody. There is fragile tenderness, love that stretches to its breaking point, and even a quiet despair that, strangely enough, carries its own beauty.
Take “Embrace,” for example, where these emotions come through with striking clarity. It begins with tender guitar play, like cautious touches, gradually weaving into the space and dissolving into shimmering keys. Hovering over this fragile fabric is a multi-layered vocal-soft yet piquant. The opening chords convey touching affection, but gradually everything grows into swift instrumental sections. Overall, the release is painted in dreamy tones: tenderness, delicate pensiveness. At the same time, Freidrich$ shows his vivid charisma. In “Passenger Princess,” shimmering strings sparkle with light while his voice highlights every inflection, capturing the magic of the moment with precision.
Things shift slightly in “Zodiacal Astrology” – here a rawer dynamism appears, an unpredictable pulse. Bouncing percussion plays with the rhythm, while hazy guitar creates the illusion of a mirage, where echoes of dreams intertwine with invigorating hip-hop vocals. The vocal darts between lines, becoming a direct imprint of thought, merging airiness and reality into one breath. This shift-from timid dreaminess to confident expression-gives the listener space to dissolve into the music and find their own light in its shimmering layers. Still, to me, “Courage” stands out as one of the album’s most memorable tracks. Its unforgettable chorus and clever use of pop hooks are key. Freidrich$ skillfully weaves melody into the song’s structure, balancing between lightness and emotional honesty. His vocals grow from soft tones at the start into powerful, energetic bursts by the end.

And so the following track, “Peep Tha Cosmos,” feels far more intimate – almost acoustic. Its melody, rhythm, and performance style reminded me of a lullaby. In a similar vein, though with more playful percussion, comes the bright “Like Koushik.” My personal favorite on the album is “What It Takes (Suga Suga)”. It continues the soft, dreamy atmosphere but enhances it with bolder production and the unexpected touch of a darker undertone. The album closes with “Perfect As Ü R “- a track where warmth and strength intertwine into a single whole. From the very first seconds, energetic drums capture attention, beneath which a soft, vibrating sound emerges. In the second half, clean guitar lines and cosmic synths are added, smoothly weaving together. A harmonious finale that beautifully completes the album.
Everything Freidrich$ does with the trap genre in his new album “Wish” is easy to recognize. He captures modern life with its tension, dreams, anxieties, and moments of pure euphoria. For those encountering the work of Friedrich for the first time, “Wish” serves as an entry into a musical world where each song unfolds like a small story, woven from feelings, rhythm, and atmosphere.
