Cola’s New Single “Hedgesitting”: Dense Sound, Subtle Melancholy and the Shadow of The Cure

Montreal trio ColaTim Darcy (vocals, guitar), Ben Stidworthy (bass) and Evan Cartwright (drums). The guys have released a new single and video “Hedgesitting”. The track combines live drums and a sampled loop and a dense, fluid sound. The video, shot by Christina Pedersen, underlines the atmosphere of the song – soft, shimmering and a little retro.

The song opens with Darcy’s line about youth and big ambitions – like a memory of a time when everything still seemed possible. With a slight tinge of melancholy, “Hedgesitting” sounds like a b-side that spent years sitting in a desk drawer and came out already different – slow, syrupy, reworked in the spirit of chopped and screwed, with the shadow of late Cure somewhere on the periphery.
