Improvisation as the Foundation: “Never You” by Y Mellon

Y Mellon is an electronic artist from Cologne, confidently balancing between house, indie electronic, and disco. His live sets are a fluid, living process: he incorporates trumpet into his performances and often invites other musicians, turning each show into a flexible, almost improvisational experience.

The track “Never You” was born during a series of studio sessions with vocalist Inken and guitarist Kai. Built on a driving house groove, it carries a warm, almost organic texture, with real guitar and live vocals at its core. “When we were working on the second verse, Kai simply picked up his guitar and started improvising over the chords. It sounded so beautiful that his solo eventually became the second verse,” Y Mellon shares.
