The Huntress and Holder of Hands from Providence, Rhode Island, feel as though they were reborn out of loss – following the death of songwriter MorganEve Swain’s husband and musical partner, Dave Lamb, in 2014. Since then, the project has evolved to encompass anger, hope, despair, and compassion – everything that makes up the shared human experience.
Their new single, “Beasts We Are,” opens with a bright, twangy, airy introduction that gradually builds toward a climax driven by uneven, fractured percussion. Speaking about the track, Swain says: “‘Beasts We Are’ is about ghosts and the stories we tell ourselves. It’s about the planet, the world, and our responsibility to the place we call home. It’s about difficult pasts, shared histories, and shared grief. It’s about where we are now as a species, and it’s a plea to each other not to be indifferent and to do something – anything.”
