Award-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer Kate Schutt presents her new single “Drumfire of the Hurricane,” inspired by the true story of Austrian artist and writer Christiane Ritter and her 1934 memoir A Woman in the Polar Night. Blending folk influences with expansive adult contemporary arrangements, the song captures the moment when a woman alone in an Arctic cabin faces the fury of a winter storm and realizes that her survival depends entirely on herself.
The title comes from Ritter’s description of the storm as “the drumfire of the hurricane.” For Kate, the phrase became the starting point for a song that explores the space between fear and courage, helplessness and action. “Drumfire of the Hurricane” tells the story of a woman’s inner transformation as she faces a profound trial and emerges from it changed.
