After all, time spent with oneself is often much more luxurious than any loud night out.It is this rare feeling of a cozy escape from the hustle and bustle that pop artist Terra Renae took as the main motif for her new single “Slightly Faded”.
Interestingly, “Slightly Faded” comes right after “Wild Again” – a track with a completely opposite energy, boldly returning Terra to the bright pop sound with which the general public first got to know her. Such a contrast indicates that Terra is capable of changing register without losing her recognizable elegance. What attracted me most in “Slightly Faded” is a harmoniously assembled cocktail of relaxed R&B and atmospheric chill-pop. Production from Midi Jones and the skill of Grammy-nominated songwriter Lauren Christy create a nocturnal, velvety energy. On the translucent musical backing, Terra’s languid vocals unfold with particular grace. In them is the effortless confidence of an artist who knows exactly what she wants.
Terra Renae’s journey in the industry is a story of incredible resilience. Terra grew up in Louisville, having lost her father early, raised by her Filipina mother. A vocal cord injury during an important audition temporarily led her away from music – she managed to build a modeling career and earn a doctorate before returning to singing with a new, more mature purpose. Her talent was appreciated by the legendary Macy Gray, who became the producer of Terra’s debut album “All I Have”, which consolidated her success by crossing the mark of one million streams.
The second album is already on the way, but for now – here it is, the perfect soundtrack for an evening for the sake of which it is not a pity to skip any party. It seems the best decisions really do begin with the word “no“.
