It was from this not exactly festive, but recognizable place that the new single by 23-year-old Nashville pop artist CAMERON, “Love Me Like Your Ex,” was born.
CAMERON is not new to this game of honesty – he has been playing it since the beginning of 2025, when he made a strong statement with the track “I Can Take You Home.” At the time, his sound leaned toward the aesthetics of the ’80s, as if he was still trying on someone else’s silhouettes before finding his own. “Love Me Like Your Ex” is the moment when the trying-on ends. Together with producers Logan Lanning and Gino Quartucci, he moves into a club sound because he knows what he wants to say.
The song clearly shows the influence of Troye Sivan and Tate McRae: the same dance energy and personal lyrics. I like that CAMERON doesn’t start with an idea – he starts with a feeling without words, and only then looks for what to wrap it in. You can hear it: the lyrics are in their place here not because they are catchy, but because they are honest.
The main magic of “Love Me Like Your Ex” lies in its duality. On the one hand, it is a perfect soundtrack for a late-night club pre-party, with a powerful beat and a fun atmosphere. On the other – if you listen closely to the lyrics, emotional vulnerability opens up behind the driving rhythm. It is a story about doubts, trying to find yourself in other people’s projections, and the desire to preserve your sense of self-worth.
CAMERON sees pop music as a way to escape reality, express himself, and feel confident. And “Love Me Like Your Ex” conveys this desire more precisely than any words could: insecurity will not disappear after a single chorus, but this song will remind you – if someone needs their ex, you should not spend your whole life trying to become them.
