The song “Mercury Retrograde” was written and recorded exclusively at night in Bogotá by French actress Charlotte de Casabianca, who discovered her talent as a songwriter at the age of 32, after a fortune teller advised her to start singing. In the song’s lyrics, Mercury retrograde becomes a cosmological concept – a way of making sense of why we return to things that we know have already ended. A cinematic alternative-pop track built around the emotional logic of a “romantic relapse”: when you understand everything, yet still give in to your feelings, finding a strange irony in the experience.
The warm sound of the double bass and string quartet blends with gradually intensifying electronic textures and orchestral synthesizers, creating a backdrop for the singer’s confident, theatrically expressive vocals.
