Penny Roox sees music as a catalyst for small revolutions. She writes and records between moves and periods of uncertainty – moments when, she says, everything begins to bloom. Her new song, “it wasn’t a crime”, is a deeply personal reflection on the aftermath of sexual violence, focusing not on the event itself but on shame, silence, and internalized guilt.
The track challenges the way responsibility is so often misplaced and explores the paradox of trying to protect the person who caused the pain. Layered guitars create an uneasy, almost trembling soundscape, amplifying the song’s anger and emotional intensity. “For a long time i searched for evidence against myself before i allowed myself to admit i was hurt. Writing this song became the moment i stopped doing that,” Penny says.
