Scott Fisher Unveils “Try So Hard,” a Wry Take on Modern Self-Promotion

Scott Fisher shrugs off the pursuit of success in his song “Try So Hard.” The track is built around a laid-back groove by bassist and co-producer Tim Lefebvre and drummer Joey Waronker. It offers an ironic, unhurried take on a world that can’t stop promoting itself.

“The song is about how we’ve reached peak self-promotion here in this country. We brag, exaggerate, bloviate, and aggrandize at every turn. Some of us have normalized outright lying, too,” the songwriter explains. Lefebvre and Waronker establish a relaxed yet precise rhythmic foundation, giving Fisher room to glide freely between Wurlitzer electric piano, guitars, and vocals.
